Gathering Israel
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today in Sacrament meeting, Sister Woods of the Stake Primary spoke to us. Her message started with her fascination with the roots of words and she told of Jacob, Abraham’s son, being renamed by the Lord. His new name is Israel, which in Hebrew means, Let God Prevail. Another meaning of the name Israel that is used today is “those who are willing to let God into their lives and let God prevail”.
President Nelson has asked us to participate in the gathering of Israel. In other words, to participate in the gathering of those who are willing to let God into their lives and let Him prevail. We, in the Heber 3rd Ward, have taken this request to heart. We are gathering Israel on both sides of the veil.
How are you gathering Israel? The Ward Family History Plan is a fun way to fulfill that request.
Last week we introduced the Ward Family History Plan. Today it began and the contest runs through Sunday, March 27.
Just to refresh:
Young Men are competing against Young Women
Relief Society, Elders Quorum and Primary are in a three-way contest
Each person can earn one point for their organization this month. For adults, YW and YM, a point is awarded for completing one of the following tasks:
Take a name to the Temple
Upload a record or memory to the FamilySearch app or on your computer
Index a batch for FamilySearch
Primary children can earn one point each for the following:
Ask family members to hold a FHE on family history
Have their photo taken in front of a Temple
Read a story about a family member who is on their family tree
Initiate the cleaning of a family member’s headstone in the cemetery
When you have earned your point, go to the chart outside the Bishop’s office and place a leaf sticker on the tree branch that represents your organization. Primary children will use orange leaves, the rest of the ward will use the green ones.
Reward? ICE CREAM! And knowing you are helping to gather Israel.
Let us know if we can help! Brother and Sister May
