Do you have 5 minutes?

 Dear Brothers and Sisters, Do you sometimes feel that your schedule is so busy that you just cannot add one more thing?   We all know that family history takes time and, if you are like us, your family history tasks can be put on the back burner when the schedules get really crazy. Did you know that you can still do family history even if you only have 5 minutes?   FamilySearch is looking for volunteers to help correct place names in the program and it only takes a couple of minutes to help out.   You can do it while waiting for a doctor appointment or while taking a water break at work or at any time where you can log into your FamilySearch account on your phone, computer, or tablet for a couple of minutes. Just follow these simple directions: Log into FamilySearch and look in the upper right corner of your home page for the Pink/Purple box that says Volunteer Opportunity .   Click on the Try It box.   (On an iPhone, go to the More icon at the bottom of the screen after logg

Partner Programs ~ A Gift from the Family History Department

  Dear Brothers and Sisters, As we research our family history, we can use all the help we can get to locate records, information, photos, documents, etc.   The Family History Department has partnered with several programs to assist us in this task.   These partner programs are free for us to access with our Church membership number and FamilySearch login.   The partner programs available to us are: v   Ancestry.com v   Find My Past v   My Heritage v   Geneanet v   Filae v   AmericanAncestors To set up your account with each of these programs, log in to your FamilySearch Account.   Click on the Help button at the top right of the home page (the question mark in the circle). ·          Click on the Help Center link in the drop down box ·          Click on Search by Topic and scroll down to the box that says “ View All ” and click on it ·          A number of circles will appear with titles under them.   Choose the “ Family Search Partners ” ·          Scroll

SODOTO (See One, Do One, Teach One)

  SODOTO (See One, Do One, Teach One) We are sure you have heard this expression a time or two, but did you know that you can apply it to Family History? The use of the phrase “See One, Do One, Teach One” began with the medical field.  It was used originally in surgery where a skilled surgeon would show a resident how to do a surgery technique, then the resident would do it, and finally he/she would teach it to another person. While they no longer use it in most hospitals today, this teaching/learning method is widely used in other fields of education. Family History is no exception. See One – Observe how a task is completed Do One – Using hands on experience, complete the task yourself Teach One – Show another person how to complete the task Repeat! We do not normally give challenges but this week we would like to challenge everyone to use the SODOTO method to learn a new task in family history.  The challenge is as follows: 1.      See One – Watch another person perform a task in fam
